The results are in! We are delighted to share that several of our handmade biscuits have once again been recognised by the Great Taste Awards 2025, the world’s largest and most respected accreditation scheme for artisan food and drink.
This year saw a record-breaking 14,340 entries from over 3,611 companies across 110 countries, all blind-tasted by a panel of more than 500 food and drink experts. Only a select few products were awarded stars, making these accolades a true mark of outstanding quality.
At Shortbread House of Edinburgh, we are proud that our small-batch, truly handmade biscuits stood out in such a distinguished field. These awards reaffirm our ongoing commitment to exceptional flavour, texture, and craftsmanship, and reflect the passion and precision poured into every biscuit we bake.

Great Taste Award Winners 2025
★★ Cheese Sablés with Cumin
“Cheese-tastic biscuits that are packed with flavour and studded with cumin seed pieces. The cheese flavour is pure and pronounced, with a moreish quality.”
Judges were unanimous in their praise for the craftsmanship behind these sablés, commending their “crispness all the way through” and “lovely lingering flavour”. Though bold in spice, the overall verdict was clear – “extremely well baked... you can taste the care and the quality.”

“Delicious, light, crisp biscuits with a pleasing honesty.”
Celebrated for their “pleasant short, crumbly texture” and “fresh, buttery flavour”, our original shortbread was praised as “a really nice biscuit with a pleasing flavour and integrity.”
★ Truly Handmade Shortbread with Earl Grey Tea
“Pretty little tea biscuits... well baked with a light crispness.”
Judges appreciated the artisan appearance and herbal notes, describing them as “distinct with bergamot, herbal and perfumed citrus”, while admiring the “crumbly texture and balance of biscuit and flavour.”
★ Truly Handmade Shortbread with Macadamia Nuts
“A well-made little biscuit with a good level of macadamia nuts and a satisfying crunch.”
Praised for their “inviting appearance”, “pleasant roasted nut flavour”, and “innovative use of macadamia nuts”, these biscuits were described as “flaky, crumbly and melt-in-the-mouth” – ideal with an espresso.
“There is a lot of flavour for a very small biscuit.”
These little delights stood out for their “potent cheese flavour”, “buttery notes”, and “crisp snap”. Judges called them “tasty and moreish”, appreciating the authentic cheesiness and artisanal bake.
“The flavour is well balanced with a pleasing, slowly diminishing chilli heat.”
Praised for their “appealing golden bake”, “Parmesan aroma” and “textural interest from the fennel seeds”, the feedback highlighted both their moreish quality and small-batch charm.
“Delicious biscuits with a great flavour and crunch.”
These dainty sablés were admired for their “crisp, short and crumbly texture”, “authentic cheese flavour” and “well-rounded buttery taste”. Judges also noted their “pleasing appearance” and “balanced seasoning”.
