On 22nd July 2014, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall visited Shortbread House of Edinburgh, a small family-run bakery in the heart of Edinburgh.
Her Royal Highness tried cutting some shortbread biscuits in the traditional fashion. She saw how the handmade shortbread is really made like Scottish housewives have made it for centuries in their own kitchens. The Duchess made a tin of Clotted Cream Shortbread biscuits.
During her visit the Duchess also met the whole team at Shortbread House as well as some producers of the ingredients. Jean Lumsden, who has now been working at Shortbread House for 20 years said “Her Royal Highness learnt how to cut the biscuits very quickly. I was quite impressed. It may take her a bit more practise to be as quick as I am so I hope she comes back to visit again.”
Shortbread House are known for making high quality biscuits and cakes for top retailers both in the UK and abroad. They are also pleased to make a range of five different biscuits under the organic Highgrove label.
The company recently celebrated winning 50 of the respected Great Taste Awards and having their products stocked on EasyJet airline.
Following the visit Anthony Laing, Managing Director at Shortbread House said: “This is a particularly exciting year for us. We are about to launch a totally new look for our business and are seeing good growth both in the UK and abroad. It was a fantastic honour to welcome the Duchess to our bakery and a real boost for all of our team who work so hard.”
